With two spin-offs and countless fighting game sequels, their game series still lives on today. The franchise started out as a side-scroller but has since evolved into a fighting franchise. The Mortal Kombat franchise is a staple of the arcades, still boasting a strong following over two decades since Mortal Kombat debuted on the PlayStation. The trilogy was originally released on arcade across the world. I didn't even know whether the series had a future. I hadn't played any of the original games since buying the NES version back when I was a kid.
